If you have a Google Voice account and want to call someone from a blocked number, there are a few steps you can take. First, open the Google Voice app on your phone and sign in. Then, look for the blocked number in the list of numbers that appear when you type in their phone number. If it’s not listed, try calling it from another phone or from your computer if it’s available. Once you’ve called the number and been able to speak with the person on the other end, they may have unblocked it for you. If not, they may need to do some more work or you may need to contact Google.

What Happens When You Block a Number

When you block a number, Google Voice blocks all calls and texts from that number. That person will hear a “Number not in service” message when trying to dial your Google Voice number. This should effectively solve recurring spam problems.

If both you and the blocked person are in a group chat, then you’ll still be able to see each other’s messages. You can’t yet disable this.

Later, if you change your mind, you can quickly and easily unblock a number in your account, as we’ll explain below.
