If you’re like most people, you probably have notifications set up on your iPhone so that when something important happens, like a call or an email, you can see it right away. But there’s a new feature in iOS 11 that could be causing some trouble for you – Siri can now read your notifications even if they’re not from the person you want it to. This is potentially dangerous because if someone is calling or emailing you and they don’t have your phone number, they might think that you’re not paying attention and leave a message. If this happens to someone who is important to you, it could lead to a lot of stress and anger – and even violence. So how do you stop Siri from reading your notifications? Well, there are a few ways:

  1. Set up an exception for notifications in your settings – this will tell Siri that it can only read messages from people who are actually on the phone (not just people who have permission to receive messages). This way, if someone calls or emails you but doesn’t have your number, they won’t get through and their message will still show up in your notification list.
  2. Turn off automatic reading of notifications altogether – this will also stop Siri from reading them automatically. You’ll need to open Settings > Notifications > Automatic Reading before doing this though.
  3. Use another app to manage your notifications instead of iPhone’s Notification Center – this way, if something important happens and Apple doesn’t give you an option to see it right away, there’ll be another app available that can help manage things for you.

First, open the Settings app on your iPhone by tapping the gear icon.

In Settings, tap “Notifications.”

In Notifications, select “Announce Notifications.”

In Announce Notifications settings, tap the switch beside “Announce Notifications” to switch it off.

Siri announcing notifications has now been completely disabled.

Alternately, you leave “Announce Notifications” enabled and fine-tune which apps you’d like Siri to announce notifications for using the “Announce Notifications From” section on the “Announce Notifications” page. To do so, scroll through the list and select any app you’d like to silence, then flip the switch beside “Announce Notifications” to the off position. Peace at last!
