If you’re like most people, you probably turn on your iPhone’s auto brightness feature to make it easier to see in low light or bright environments. But if you’re looking to disable this feature completely, there are a few ways to do so. To disable auto brightness on an iPhone 6 or later, open the Settings app and scroll down until you see “Display & Brightness.” Tap on this option and then toggle the “Auto Brightness” switch off. If you have an older iPhone, or if you want to disable auto brightness for specific apps rather than the entire device, open those apps’ settings menus (usually found in the App Store) and turn off “Auto Brightness.” ..

Thanks to light sensors, your iPhone can automatically adjust the display brightness to match the ambient lighting. If you prefer manual controls, it’s possible to turn off Auto-Brightness, but Apple put the option in an unusual place.

Strangely, the iPhone and iPad’s automatic brightness option is not in the “Display & Brightness” settings like you’d expect. You’ll find the “True Tone” toggle, but nothing for Auto-Brightness. The good news is it’s not hard to find, you just need to look somewhere else.

First, open the “Settings” app from the home screen.

Here’s where Apple throws the curveball. You actually want to go to “Accessibility,” not the Display settings.

Now, tap the “Display & Text Size” category within Accessibility.

Scroll down to the bottom and toggle off the switch for “Auto-Brightness.”

That’s it! Now when you adjust the brightness it will stay at the level you set until you change it again. This can be a good trick to save battery life—if you keep the brightness low—or it can drain the battery quickly if you leave it on high brightness a lot. You have the control now, use it wisely.
